DESCRIPTION
I have been photographing London during the COVID-19 pandemic since 17 March 2020. I have spent significant time in many of London's boroughs photographing how it has felt to walk the streets and live in one of the most famous cities in the world during a global pandemic. This photo was taken in Kentish Town, London on 19 May 2020. The space helmet looking out onto the street felt very surreal and made me think of space exploration and how not too long ago people couldn't imagine sending a human into space. That feeling seemed appropriate for what was happening in the world, and how months prior no one could have imagined we would be hit by a deadly pandemic and all of London and the world would shut down. The space helmet and face mask are symbolic of moments in history.
AUTHOR
After buying a second hand Canon 550D, I spent 3 months travelling around Southeast Asia photographing my adventure... and something clicked. Photography unearthed an excitement and zest for creativity I hadn't felt for some time. It helped me recognise my fascination with how humans live and behave in various surroundings and environments. Much of my photography is what I like to call observational photography - I don't like to interrupt life, but photograph it as it happens, because everyday life intrigues and excites me. My current and most ambitious project is documenting London during the Coronavirus Pandemic.
