About the Series
Cliché-verres is an ongoing series of cameraless photographs that is a result of the artist searching for ways of working outside of the darkroom — from home — throughout the coronavirus pandemic. Each piece documents her investigation into how traditional art supplies and materials interact and chemically react with household substances.

Artist Statement
I am an environmentally concerned experimental photographer based in the North East of England who works with both analogue and digital mediums. Inspired by organic form, texture and abstraction, my practice explores the unpredictability and uncontrollability of nature, and often looks to find the beauty in destruction. Through my work, I present unseen perspectives of the natural world that offer viewers new ways of seeing and allow them to perceive the micro details within it that are usually invisible to the naked eye. As I work with materials that produce uncertain outcomes, creating each of my pieces is a process of trial and error, where fortunate strokes of serendipity are patiently awaited and errors are embraced.

Charlotte Greenwood is a North East England-based experimental fine artist working with both analogue and digital media, focusing primarily on cameraless photography.

Originally from Lancashire, she moved to London in 2017 to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Illustration and Visual Media at the University of the Arts London, from which she graduated with First-Class Honours in 2021.

Charlotte uses her deep affinity for the natural world and organic abstraction as the main motivators for her work, exploring nature's sublimity and boundless creativity through intimate perspectives. Particularly in the context of the current climate crisis, her work seeks to foster a greater sense of connectedness and appreciation for the environment, inviting viewers to rediscover their place within it.

Charlotte has exhibited her work nationally and internationally, including notable shows at the Royal Photographic Society in Bristol and, most recently, at the Vatican’s Borgo Laudato Si’ in the Papal Palace Gardens of Castel Gandolfo, Italy, for the Earth Partner Exhibition 2025. She was awarded first place in the Abstract category of the Fine Art Photography Awards 2022, and her Cliché-Verres in Colour series has been featured as a centre spread in New Scientist magazine.
