Abstract nominee

The light was beautiful one early morning at the beach. It was a cloudy day. The sun was peeking through the clouds. I took several pictures, mostly with both the sky and the ocean in the frame. These 2 pictures, one of only the sky and one only the ocean, are the most satisfactory images I took that morning. Seeing them side by side evokes the same mood in me as listening to music by Philip Glass.

I love beauty; and nothing excites me more than finding it in everyday common objects and places. But each scene, unless staged, happens only once and then vanishes forever. The world is transient. Time does not stop.

Of course, art is more than beauty. Good art should communicate, tell stories, and evoke feelings. Great art should elevate us to the spiritual realm.

So it is through photography that I hope to freeze and preserve moments of beauty, to tell stories, and to lift the human spirit.
