Decay and reconquest (Series)
DESCRIPTION
For quite some time I have been tracing old, decaying industrial complexes throughout Europe and documenting them in my series "Decay and Reconquest". The shots of the former Zuccherificio in Cecina Italy, belong to this series. On the one hand, I am captivated by the melancholic charms of these buildings, the incomparable morbid beauty and sculptural aesthetics, of things doomed. On the other hand, I find it fascinating to contemplate the decay of things , left to themselves, as an expression of dirt, destruction, breakage, dysfunction as a condition of human life. I can not really actively experience the past of these places. It is only possible for me as a photographer to enter into a relationship with them in their demise and to fictitiously immerse myself in their history. And I find that very exciting. The historical buildings portray the fates of the working people. Report on the dangerous exhausting work, talk about the thunderous noise of the monumental machines that now stand still. Spread the smells of the past and remind me of my own history, in which the original is changing just as hardly visible and just as slowly decaying.
