In my ‘powder series’ – I always love powder shoots. Not just throwing powder besides the model like some photographers do. If you wonder what important factors make the difference between a ‘good’ powder-photo, and a sublime one, it’s the amount of energy, the acceleration and continuation of the movement. During my shoots the way the powder makes a beautiful flight is completely in hands of the model, of the dancer or gymnast.
Most models I start a powdershoot with, try first to do a little action an ‘take a pose’. In that case this means completely failed pictures. Every try out in such a shoot must be the most active, the most accelerative movement my model ever made in her/his life.
So Merel practiced a lot, first without powder, until it was perfect … tens and tens of times … She really needed to get loose, to give everything she had in her. But when she finally did, last time without powder, I took this picture … splendid !!!
This so talented gymnast is just marvelous, talented as hell
I’m so glad you passed here again Merel. You’ll always welcome in my studio!!!

DESCRIPTION
AUTHOR
My photography is known for my contemporary, experimental and conceptual Fine Art portraits with children.
My photographic style is sometimes emotional, stylish and simple: I like to photograph dancers, ballerinas, gymnasts, contortionists ... , lately mainly elite athletes, emphasizing the elegance of the 'human body' starting with the pure body yourself. Beauty in artistic human lines, muscles, the play of light and shadow on this, where their movement or pose makes the image so pure.
My photographic style can also be called conceptual: building a whole set with old props and clothes.
But above all, my style can be called contemporary and experimental: what could be more beautiful than photographing my model, half girl, half clay statue, assuming a pose that only she can do. What could be better than using props to make my photos surreal.
