Water nymphs, or Naiades (from the Greek “to flow”), in Greek mythology, are a type of female spirit, or nymph, presiding over fountains, wells, springs, streams, brooks and other bodies of water. They are often represented as being beautiful, light-hearted, and beneficent.
My modern-day water nymph was photographed in a large tank, then released from captivity and re-imagined in her natural ocean environment, under the wolf moon (photographed on the same day), where she protects the ocean from man-made damage.
My image, whilst beautiful, serves as a metaphor for our need to protect the ocean. Many urgent messages are falling on deaf ears, and I feel powerless to make a difference. I imagine that my water nymph is hearing our cries for help.
