DESCRIPTION
After recently moving to Finland, the forest has become my place for introspection. Silence and serenity, getting lost in nature, searching for a spark of creation, exploring the miracles she reveals, grasping her universality we can always relate to, her language we can all understand.
Despite coming from a southern European country, Spain, which offers a different landscape, in Gazing Out, I display a photographic statement of the transcendence of nature above our cultural roots, as we are at her mercy, carrying us into the unconscious, helping us to understand the world through an act of solitude. “I am nothing; I see all; the currents of the Universal Being circulated through me; I am part or particle of God” (Waldo Emerson, 1836).
Using an infrared camera provides me a vehicle of sight beyond our human limitations: cracks into the surreal, remote places, moments frozen in time, a scope into what is not made of matter. During the current times of social isolation and limited movement,
photography opens a door to parallel worlds, an escape mechanism out of the ordinary.
AUTHOR
Francisco Gonzalez Camacho (b. 1990) is a Spanish visual artist based in Helsinki. He is currently studying a Masters' degree in Photography at Aalto University. His practice can be denominated as contemporary photography with focus on themes such as family, immigration and the landscape.
