Scandinavia. Where a real Swede gets high even just from riding a bicycle, where raising a child is treated as carefully as a thin, glass Christmas tree. And where people are afraid of you, the immigrant, fearing that you might disrupt their established, happy and safe life. It's a difficult period when you're trying to fit into a well-being that has been created and maintained at the highest level for decades. You begin to break down your spirit. You are re-learning to trust people as you did before your first life lesson. Constantly fighting for respect and dignity for yourself, your children and relatives all your adult life back home, you get the imprint of that pain, which is easy to read in your eyes, no matter how much you smile. And when you go outside, you put on the mask of a happy local. But as darkness falls, with no one watching, you relive it all over again. Left alone with a past that can't yet let you go. And with the present, where you are still a stranger.
