To remind myself of being safe and loved, even in the darkest times.

After losing my grandfather, I felt suspended somewhere in a dark and perplexing world. No questions nor answers were crossing my mind and I missed my noisy thoughts.

It was my best friend, the model in the pictures, who gave me the strength to make this series while still feeling awry. That’s why there are elements of the photographs that feel like the parts of dreams that turn into a nightmare.

Jolien De Buyser graduated as a professional photographer from Narafi, Brussels in 2019.
She lets herself be guided by her emotional experiences. By walking the fragile line between personal experience and emotional openness,
she tries to capture her personal processes in one moment. As a result, her photos often depict unanswered riddles and stories that leave the beginning and the end to your imagination.
