Of all of Iceland’s contrasts, conflicts, and opposing forces, the clash of Green and Black is disturbing because of its improbability, but irresistible because of its elegance.
When it settles on the Black of the volcanic ground, Green enters into an alchemy to which it wasn't invited. In the absence of light, its chlorophyll feeds on past eruptions, and drinks from incessant rains. The result is an outrageously vivid landscape, as if highlighted with a fluorescent marker.
How can a molecule of life settle here and thrive in this fierce environment, to the point of spreading ad infinitum? As with the universe, the desire to expand seems to be its driving force, its hallmark, its raison d’être. What a strange thing to strive for, to live for! For what was there to conquer here?
Nano 577 is a series born of this confrontation between Black and Green—two brothers at war.
