Street Photography nominee

"Geometric Hong Kong" is a black and white street photography series that depicts my creative vision of my hometown. It comes with a fine art aesthetic and the compositional approach of isolating urban subjects, geometric elements and forms from the chaotic urban environment of Hong Kong.

This series portrays the way of life of different urban characters in the context of their surrounding geometric environment, which were all culled from mundane everyday scenes, with fleeting moments seized from near and distant. The somehow minimalist approach seemingly contrasts with the maximalism of the dense cityscape of Hong Kong – famously known as a "Concrete Jungle".

Nevertheless, those subjects look trapped and lost inside an artificial geometric labyrinth without realising it – perhaps this series is also a metaphorical view of urbanity and the hectic contemporary way of life in a metropolis like Hong Kong.

Jason Au is an award-winning photographer based in Hong Kong. He specializes in black and white photography and is interested in street and fine art photography. His high-aesthetic works often incorporate creative, geometric and balanced compositions, with prominent use of contrasting light and shadows and dynamic interplay between texture and forms.

Jason has won numerous photography awards in 2021, including 2nd Place in “LensCulture Street Photography Awards” (Single Image), 1st Place in “International Photography Awards (IPA)” (Street Photography Category), 1st Place in “IPA - One Shot” (Category Winner), 1st Place in “ND Awards” (Street Photography Category), 1st Place in “Paris Street Photo Awards” (Street & Architecture Category), 2nd Place in “Fine Art Photography Awards” (Street Photography Category) and Silver Award in “Prix de la Photographie, Paris (PX3)” (Street Photography Category).
