Decompositions (Series)
DESCRIPTION
Decompositions is a series of self-portraits about our difficult acceptance of death and the complicated relationship with the space that surrounds us. Even if we struggle to admit it, we believe we are unique creatures separated from the rest of nature and we rarely think about the fact that there was something before us and that it will be there even after we are gone. For this reason we are obsessed with the idea of our inevitable decline and we fear that everything is destined to dissolve into nothingness. In reality, however, we are made of that same matter that constitutes the universe and that constantly changes in a perennial cycle of growth and decay. Every atom in our body comes from somewhere and was previously in other living things. We are not doomed to vanish into thin air, but to transform into other forms of life. The intent of this project is to unhinge the usual “body-space” opposition, presenting images in which the two interpenetrate in order to recreate a sort of original unity.
