Conceptual nominee

This character is a combination of mythology and modern reality. It is based on an old Mediterranean deity. Gurzil was the god of war in the berber mythology. The Berbers relied on Gurzil to thwart invaders and to defend their territory. Minotaur is another version of this god who was more monstrous in Greece and maybe other cultures. The purpose of this character is to show that money plays nowadays a spiritual role. It is used to overcome our insecurities. In fact, it became a goal that we work day and night to achieve. But money can be destructive and devastative at times. If it soothes our fears after receiving a paycheque, its absence can destroy households, families and even societies. The difference between an old deity and Moneytaur is that the first is abstract and the latter is not. That is why it is taking over the world. Who knows, like any other ancient god, would Moneytaur fall and leave its place for a new one ? who knows?

I was born in a little Amazigh (Berber) village in North Africa. I moved to Toronto, Canada in 2004 where I have been living ever since. I started taking photography more seriously when I discovered that it is a powerful tool that can be used to communicate ideas and deep concepts in an artistic manner. I like using and combining techniques and tools to reach the effects I want. I have participated in a few international photography contests and my humble work was distinguished in a few competitions. I am very interested in social, political and cultural issues. I consider myself a lifelong learner who aspires to develop his photography skills further.
