THERE’S A CRACK IN EVERYTHING
…AND THAT’S HOW THE LIGHT GETS IN.
(Leonard Cohen – “Anthem”)
These dark pictures focus on the figure who stays alone, surrounded by silence and light. The atmosphere is made thicker through the use of textures. But there’s something which interrupts the ordinary, cracks which come out of the blue to endanger our routines and planning, and worm their way into our everyday life. They are all the personal, intimate troubles, as well as social and collective issues that come to challenge our way of living. There are unanswered questions and doubts. There are words that peek out, words that can either build links between people, or destroy them. The title comes from a line of a song by Leonard Cohen, who explained it as referring to the lack of perfection of all human things.
The printed images have been ripped after printing to convey this sense of frailty and some layers of different papers can be seen under the original layer.
Anyway, in spite of the rip and tear, the picture stays undiminished, and the figure can find support in love and keeps on reflecting light.
