Experimental nominee

This image is originated from an underwater photo of mating nudibranchs, Hypselodoris bullockii. My intention is make an independent art, which is entirely different from original photo, to create and show a space not seen in the original. Parts of nudibranchs, tiny orange-colored rhinophores, are still recognized in the created image.

I am an avid diver. I had a desire to find a way to turn my underwater photos into independent creative artwork. During Covid-19 pandemic, I could not travel for diving. However, I had enough time to experiment my desire and creation. Images were created, originated from my photos of underwater creatures. The images sometimes retain the original colors and/or the patters appear on the sea creatures, but, mostly, only parts of them can be recognized. Without information, it is hard to imagine the creatures in the original photos. Many of the created artworks are entirely different from the originals. I am especially interested in the combination of colors and patterns appear on nudibranchs, angelfish and sea anemones. The colors and the pattern on these creatures are fascinating and artistic. From these resources, I made images. As a diver, while I enjoy watching various sea creatures underwater, to make an artwork from a photo is a different process which I feel compelled to do.
