DESCRIPTION
Ice Queen, self-portrait, 2022
A modern work of art based on the goddess Skaði who is associated with winter and the mountains but is more famous for her part in helping to imprison the mischievous god Loki within the mountains. Skaði was responsible for placing a poisonous snake on a rock above Loki's head, where it dripped venom onto his face.
This image represents Loki's revenge, trapping and locking Skaði within the ice.
This modern fine art piece uses images shot within an ice cave in Tignes, France. The shots of the permafrost have been used to encapsulate, Skaði, the ice queen. Frost textures have been used as overlays to enhance being trapped within the ice.
AUTHOR
Kelly Long is a fine art photographer, specialising in self-portraiture. She crafts evocative and beautifully imagined images that encapsulate the emotional aspects of being human. Her self-portraiture work explores the vulnerabilities, fears and hopes that connect us all.
