The artist is the granddaughter of Jeong(Chung) Segwon, the first Korean real estate developer and national activist during the Japanese colonial period (1910-1945). He built large-scale Hanok complexes in central Seoul, including Ikseon-dong area, and became the 'architecture king' of Gyeongseong, the capital of the time. He devoted all his wealth to patriotic independence movement, which he had earned from his architectural activities.
Today, his granddaughter wishes to leave his will to future generations through her photography. As the sophisticated taste of modern young people is added to the background of Ikseon-dong, new cultural phenomena that boil like a furnace are unfolding.
It is impossible to insist on a fixed perspective due to the characteristics of a narrow and long alley that is so narrow that both hands touch the walls when the arms are spread out. Thousands of images while walking along the alleys using multiple viewpoints were collected and the pieces of each image were connected in a photo-collage method to create a scroll-style Ikseon-dong alley. An oriental painting is reproduced on Korean scroll paper that blends the past and the present.
Each photo is three-meter long and, for the entry’s convenience, is divided in 2 parts.
