In the Medina of Fez, a butcher takes a moment at the end of a long morning. The market had countless opportunities for photographs, as well as a feast for the other senses as well. Below the photo, unseen, a dozen cats waited for offal and cleaned drips from the ground. Having passed through the whole market and seen all the components of a meal laid out in their most intimate detail, not only meat but spices, grains, fruits, even pottery and tableware, we shared a tagine that was the gestalt product of everything we had seen in the morning, and the meal had special significance.
