As a young, female, queer photographer, I use my art as a means of escapism from the everyday. Where I can peer into the new realities I create, that visually highlight female, diverse and queer representation. For this image, I wanted to showcase myself (the mermaid) and my friend Georgia Lock (Hylia) in a fantastical queer archetype, not at all that dissimilar to Waterhouse's queer painting 'Hylas and the Nymphs', a tragic Grecian and Roman love story. I create these heterotopic depictions to motivate and inspire others to feel the same; represented and uplifted through these fantastical images.
