Portrait nominee

Long before I ever picked up a camera, I enjoyed traveling and learning about languages, places and cultures. I want to understand the experiences that make each person unique, along with the common qualities that connect us all.

My early photographic interests were broad, including architecture, nature, street scenes and even some abstracts. Over the years I became increasingly interested in making photographs of people and have since dedicated myself almost exclusively to portraiture. My photography follows my humanistic belief in people’s inherent value, dignity and goodness.

I’ve been privileged to meet and photograph hundreds of people on five continents and across diverse geographies. Each image in this collection portrays an individual who generously agreed to collaborate with me in the making of their portrait.

I hope these portraits will enable you to see something of the soul of each person. I’m hoping you’ll ask, “Who is this person? What do we have in common? And how do we differ?” While my photographs may depict differences in appearance, dress, culture, faith, and way of life, I hope you’ll also find they reveal that we human beings are more alike than we are different.

I am a travel, documentary and portrait photographer based in Denver, Colorado. I travel extensively in pursuit of images that reflect local cultures and people. My emphasis in recent years has been on portraiture with the objective of introducing viewers to the people I meet and photograph at home and around the world. My photographs are intended to convey a sense of place, personality and emotion. I've been privileged to meet and photograph people in many different places -- on five continents and across diverse geographies, cultures and ways of life. While my photographs document the many differences in appearance, dress, culture, faith and way of life, I hope they also convey the fact that our similarities and "connectedness" as humans far outweigh those superficial differences.

Since 2015, my work has been exhibited in more than 25 juried group shows in the United States and Europe receiving Best in Show, Best Portrait, Director's Choice, Artistic Excellence and Honorable Mention awards. I have presented four solo exhibitions and my photographs have been published in consumer magazines, newspapers and photography journals.

I am represented by Robert Anderson Gallery, Denver, Colorado and Gallery Photiq, Royal Leamington Spa, England.
