In the summer of 2022, I spent 36 days in wonderful, beautiful, Italy. The trip started in Piedmont, heading to Lake Iseo and on to Verona, Bologna, Siena, Certaldo, Montepulciano, Lucca and Corniglia, as well as many small villages along the way.
The five images I have selected from a wider series demonstrate my observation of the people, texture, shape, line and atmosphere of Italy that I experienced during my travels. In Siena, I observed the flair and traditions of a city as it prepared for the famous Palio. In Tuscany, I observed the angles and textures of the rooftops that are so evocative of this area. In the cities, I enjoyed watching the locals and the tourists navigating the same spaces, each group of people executing their different daily aims. I also loved the blurring of the boundary between inside and outside spaces, which is enabled by the warm weather and creates beautiful, warm and calm spaces.
