BAYOU CITY
In 1986 I returned to Houston, where I lived as a small child, to recapture my early impressions of that time and place. I wanted to recreate the Houston of my past by photographing buildings and neighborhoods from the late 1950s. The older cityscapes in Bayou City, many of which are being destroyed to pave the way for new developments, evoke a timely and timeless chapter of American cities.
The project took several weeks to photograph and over a year to print. I used an 8 x 10 Deardorff camera with Gold Dot lenses and printed the images in palladium. The Bayou City series consists of forty-seven images on 11 X 14 Strathmore 500 medium-surface 1-ply paper.
