It was our first winter ever. That day, we decided to take a walk in our neighborhood but the wind and snow had created such incredible landscapes that we felt we were lonely visitors
on a distant planet untouched by the human hand. So, we took our cameras and started photographing it. We observed the formation and disappearance of impossible mountains, the flattest of valleys and all kinds of abstract forms we could not describe with words. 40 minutes later our bodies were frozen but we knew we got what we wanted. Later at home, we thought about how humans have tried for decades to capture the great ephemeral beauty of nature. Instantly we began to reproduce what we had witnessed using only paper and light.
Patterns explores the concept of representation and identity. Each image reflects on the way we try to represent by our own means the overwhelming aesthetics of an unknown territory and how this process can be seen as a way to create a sense of belonging to a new country we encountered for the first time. This series evokes, in a poetic way, how we understand the world and how we became part of it.
