DESCRIPTION
In the society we live in, one of the most praised and desired qualities in a person is productivity. And what most people do is to keep going, no matter how they feel, ignoring the signs their body is giving them. Hand in hand with this goes being pleasant, not upsetting other people, suppressing our emotions. We learn that to be kind is to be humble, to put everyone before ourselves. But what happens when our cup is empty? What happens to the emotions we suppress, the frustration, the resentment when we feel we are being treated unfairly? This behavior creates a disconnect between our mind, what we think we should do, and our body, the signals that appear when we do something that doesn't align with our values and needs. As we continue to betray ourselves in this way, we not only lose touch with who we are, but we also become very resentful. Eventually, our body says "no" and we either get sick or we explode by doing something radical as a form of revenge against those we feel have wronged us. The solution is to become more mindful, to reconnect body and mind.
AUTHOR
Emanuela Nesko is a fine art photographer and visual artist currently living in Germany.
From an early age, she found it easier to express herself visually rather than in words, using mediums like drawing, painting, photography and drama. Childhood traumas gave Emanuela the urge to seek connections with people around her in ways that felt safe to her. During her studies at the University of Fine Arts in Madrid, she started using photography as a form of therapy to heal from past emotional and mental wounds and connect with her deepest self.
Following graduation, she moved from Spain to Germany, where she gained experience working as a portrait photographer. After a while Emanuela realized she had lost the connection with why she was using photography to express herself. That realization determined her to change paths. Currently Emanuela works with conceptual and surreal art, inviting viewers into otherworldly scenarios. Through her work, she seeks to connect with others who have also been subject to emotional and physical neglect. She aims to grow awareness about childhood traumas, which affect people throughout adulthood if suppressed and emphasize the attention these experiences require as a part of the healing process.
