Did you know that 1 in 4 people in the United States has a disability? And yet, they are the population that receives the least amount of representation. And in luxury fashion, basically no representation.
While there are many different types of disabilities, for this series we chose to highlight a community of talented models who all use wheelchairs as their primary means of mobility. Why this community in particular? Because if they are lucky enough to get any type of representation in mainstream media, they are most often tokenized, meaning there is only one of them representing the whole community of wheelchair users.
By creating this work, we are creating a space for other talents who use wheelchairs to be not only represented in luxury fashion and fashion in general, but also celebrated! It is our hope that in the future, work like this will not be so unique.
