Benjamin Juhel uses the societal functions or images of cities to re-examine our relationships with representations,
to the society of spectacle and consumption, and to the fabrication of power. Without wanting to denounce, he invites us
to question by creating poetic situations and images where the time of night brings silence and solitude.
Benjamin Juhel offers images with textures and lights close to painting and cinematography.
The darkness of images invites to contemplation, to take the time to discover what is being shown, leaving the
time for the eye to catch the details that appear when our eye gets used to shades of black.
Here the bodies are appeased, released, abandoned.
Unlike the image of body in advertising image culture, the
darkness of the images and the serenity of the characters invite
a time of more silent contemplation.
Models usually conditioned to other postures formulate here
a proposition beyond established expectations.
The streets of the City of London, nocturnal and silent wandering,
accompany his images and extend the questions about
our societies of representation and consumption.

Born in 1984 in Normandy. Lives and works in Bordeaux.
After studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Benjamin Juhel continued
his work in photography and film around staged bodies. He
also works for advertising and works in photography in various
structures.
He directed a workshop in Bombay with The Company Theater
and this time of research with actors, dancers, plastic artists,
around simple gesture, rhythm in movement, and the relationship
to spaces, affirms his conception of choreographic staging.
Then he mixed the questions of body structures with spaces and
architecture. And now cities.
Each of his series offers a sociological basis, a look at Humanity,
Representation, which he translates into fictional images.
Benjamin Juhel stages his characters, creates his images, with the
freedom to compose offered with painting and the choreography
in space. Finally a cinematographic process.
The society of spectacle, deindividualization, the mechanization of
the human relationship, are the founding elements of his projects.
He conveys this perception of the world by praising loneliness, absence
and fragility.
