DOLMEN
La Rioja Alavesa is located in the south of the Historical Territory of Álava, and it is where the most important megalithic station in the Basque Autonomous Community (Spain) is located. From east to west, it is formed by the dolmens of El Montecillo, Lazaya, El Sotillo, San Martín, El Alto de la Huesera, La Chabola de La Hechicera, El encinal and Los Llanos. These dolmens have been discovered and excavated from 1935 to 2009, chronologically, they developed from the late Neolithic to the Bronze Age.
The megalithic station of La Rioja Alavesa is made up of eight dolmens, all of which are corridor tombs with polygonal chambers. Some, such as La Chabola de La Hechicera, El Encinal and Lazaya, present a segmented corridor and others, present signs of having had a covered corridor, as in the case of San Martín and Alto de la Huesera, which maintain a slab located between the strata at the beginning of the corridor. Despite this typological uniformity, they are dolmens whose dimensions notably differentiate them.
