My botanical images are created using the photographic art of scanography. I handpick flowers, leaves and seed pods that are grown in my father’s beautiful New Zealand garden, then carefully arrange them directly onto a high-resolution flatbed scanner. I work sculpturally upside-down and love playing with the shallow depth of field, all the details closest to the glass are extremely sharp, while the rest blur into the distance to create a unique ethereal floating effect. I use photoshop to retouch, grade and refine my final images and produce a range of Limited Edition Fine Art Prints.
I captured ‘Dancing Heleniums’ at the end of summer when the vibrant orange daisy-like flowers had grown into large bushes, dancing together whenever the wind blew. If you look closely you’ll see that Heleniums have the most amazing electric patterns on their petals and flower buds.
My work draws people in, to experience and appreciate the beauty of nature, up close in fine detail.
Grown by my father, captured by me and preserved forever.
