Sharks In Motion (Series)
DESCRIPTION
Sharks are an integral part of marine ecosystems, having evolved over 450 million years to become the ocean’s top predator. Unfortunately, their fearsome reputation makes them one of the most misunderstood and misrepresented species. Through this series, my objective was to capture their raw beauty, power, and grace as they move through their ocean environment. The images feature lemon sharks and were taken over a two-year period, during which I dove the same area and often encountered the same individuals. This allowed me highlight their unique characteristics and personality traits, showcasing the essence of this amazing and curious species. Shark populations have drastically declined by at least 70% in the last 50 years due primarily to overfishing, bycatch, habitat loss, and pollution. It is crucial that we change perceptions and take urgent steps to protect these magnificent creatures that are critical to the health of our ocean for future generations.
