In the ongoing series ‘for the birds’ I make classical still life photographs, these are sold as limited large format artworks.
I am drawn to the nostalgic side of history. Mainly the ideal image of the home, where abundant food, beautiful objects and a grand bouquet of flowers are presented on a table. In my ideal home tropical birds fly free. Every new photo in this series can be seen as an addition to my artistical bird family. In the photos I capture the moment where the birds are exploring the scene.
The setup is photographed in parts and brought together digitally, which allows me to take my time to perfect each part, just like the still life masters of the golden age would do.
Most objects are antique with little time reference to add to the ideal dream image.
The color and shape of the flowers and food often resemble each other, these visual echoes create pleasing patterns in the composition. I choose seasonal and forgotten fruit and vegetables like turnips, quinces and medlars. I hope to inspire people to cherish and try the great variety nature offers us and see the beauty in historic objects.
