Arare rice crackers are a local specialty of the town of Shika, on the Noto Peninsula. This photograph shows arare being dried as part of the old-fashioned production process still practiced in the town. These colorful treats are spread out to dry, in containers that cover the factory floor, and they are mixed every three days or so as they dry over the course of a month.
When I saw these colorful little cubes, just 1cm on each side, I was stunned by the realization that there was such beauty to be found in the Noto Peninsula.
