Venezuela, once the richest country in Latin America now suffers from severe economic crisis and the biggest migration movement -over 5 million people leaving - in the continent.
Instead of traditional documentary photographic approach. I decided to photography a tiny section of the wall in the Peruvian immigrate office complex, where immigrants are forced to halt their journey in hope of a better life. Instead of actively searching for drastic visual stimulation, I stationed my camera and photographed people who came and sheltered in front of the wall as they waited for permission to enter Peruvian terrain. I continuously photographed this wall and influx of immigrants in front of it, in the time span of 20 days. These photos captured in their “found situation", where protagonists and their material belongings are not staged but in their real-life settings. Interviews of personal details are conducted after the photos were taken.
This project also intends to explore the boundary between documentary photography and conceptual photography. Selected was a sequence of 10 documentary photographs of the same venue, which resembles a stage, where lapse of time is traced by people’s face and their stories.
