A homage to the Iconic work of Vermeer's 'Girl with a Pearl Earring'.
Symbolism in this piece include;
- Diamond tears symbolize the hard and difficult times that we go through, but also the idea of coming out stronger, shining, and more precious for it.
- Golden spheres represent unity and completeness.
- Sapphires symbolize a peaceful state of mind, feeling at ease and in harmony with oneself and the world around us.
- Adding Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring reflection in the golden spheres, symbolizes the connection between the past and the present, showing how art and techniques from the past can still be relevant and inspiring in today's world.
Part of my 'On The Other Hand' (2014) series, which explores the question of what medium the Old Masters would prefer in the present day and combines elements of traditional painting techniques with digital painting and fine art photography.
