The photo is of the Dr Oliver Bronson House (also known as the Plumb Bronson House) which is a National Historic Landmark located in Hudson, New York. The house was mistakenly (I think ) absorbed into the grounds of a prison built by the State of New York for female juvenile delinquents and the prison continues as a New York State penal institution but is fairly well distanced from the actual grounds of the prison. The house was used as the superintendent’s house for several years but was abandoned in 1970.The house remained unattended for quite a while until Historic Hudson, a non-profit corporation, raised significant funds to preserve the house so that the structure can be seen. The house is now leased by the State of New York to Historic Hudson for $1 per year. The house is not open to the public but it can be leased, however, for special events. When I was there taking photographs ,
a few architects were present measuring the staircase presumably to attempt to duplicate the same graceful feeling at some other location.
