This series came to be after I read a 2022 study of sexists comments said to women in a workplace, in public, and even in their own home. However, what was really disorenting to read in that study, was that most of the sexist comments were said by women to women. As a young woman myself, it has been drilled into me by society to support other women. I found it incredibly ironic that the group of people that are supposed to have your back in this man led society are the same people who will be the first to judge how you dress, how you treat your partner, and what you decide to do with your body.
In this series I composited three separate self portraits, inspired by the 1950s to represent the absolute irony that we are still dealing with the same sexist comments as the past. I composited each portrait with a woman's hand, reaching out beyond the border, continuing this idea of "women supporting women" but it this case the woman's hand is presenting the gender stereotype.
