The Psychology of Trees (Series)
DESCRIPTION
I'm always in awe of the amazing trees I find in the woods around my house. I believe what is said about their magical restorative power. I can feel their positive effect whenever I am in their proximity. I don't even have to touch them. As an artist, I find much of my inspiration in nature. With an almost self-portraiture approach and the use of painterly and cinematic effects, I challenge long-held assumptions of what photography means to us. Rather than presenting stark reality, I prefer to fabricate an illusion to let viewers explore their imagination limits. My work never comes directly from the camera in a recognizable form. It appears as mystic compositions in which dream and reality meet, past and present have no meaning, and the stories I tell are left unfinished. Imagination and self-inspection always play a key role. I create work through personal therapeutic processes that imprint inner unresolved feelings into representations of reality.
AUTHOR
Eduardo Fujii is a fine art photographer living on the beautiful Monterey Peninsula in California. At an early age, he demonstrated great interest in the arts. He started music lessons at the age of five followed by painting a few years later. It wasn’t until late 2006, however, that he turned to photography as a form of artistic expression. Classical music and painting have been part of most of his life and have certainly contributed to the development of a lyrical sensibility that underlies his photography today.
Eduardo has participated in gallery exhibitions at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, Colorado, the Center for Photographic Art, the Cherry Center for the Arts, and Carmel Visual Arts in Carmel, California, the Museum of Monterey and Alvarado Gallery in Monterey, and has received various awards including Spotlight Awards from B&W Magazine and Color Magazine, PX3 Prix de la Photographie, Professional Photographer Magazine, Monochrome Awards, and the International Color Awards. One of Eduardo’s images was selected for the cover of Shadow & Light Magazine. In 2017, Eduardo was awarded Photographer of the Year at the 12th Annual Black and White Spider Awards.
