Their Voices Matter (Series)
DESCRIPTION
We strive to photograph individuals with limb loss and body differences in nontraditional images to showcase their unique ways of experiencing life after a traumatic event or birth defect resulting in the loss of a piece of themselves.
AUTHOR
Through our art we seek to create fine art surreal photographs showing the strength of the individual, to allow the viewer to look deep within oneself and make a connection with their own experiences and struggles.
As a couple, my husband and I, observe fascinating people moving around us in their day to day live, and seek to learn their stories. We believe that everyone has obstacles they must overcome both positive and negative. Our photographs allow us to share the stories and struggles of the subjects we encounter and reveal their inner strengths. Using non-traditional models allows us to utilize those individuals typically who feel they are overlooked by society. All the individuals in our images live and work in our local community. Conversations across a range of topics; loss, doubt, self-worth, addiction, injury, illness, and depression result in the development of image ideas. Stories sometimes so personal they have been shared with trust to maintain anonymity.
Using real-world locations and props to create gateways into surreal worlds. From abandoned train stations to old grain silos no place is off limits to create beautiful story filled images. We seek to create artwork that produce visceral reactions for viewers. Some
