In my ongoing self-portrait series, I delve into my identity post-total hysterectomy, prompted by complex endometriosis and adenomyosis. This series boldly redefines the loss of sexual and reproductive organs as a transformative awakening of femininity.
Central to the series are meticulously hand-stitched photographic prints, where needle and thread manipulate photo paper, symbolizing the reclaiming of agency over my body. This tactile process holds personal significance, linking me to my grandmother's legacy of resilience and craftsmanship.
Furthermore, my unique writing style adorns the photographs, paying homage to my mother's artistic influence. Through this fusion, I assert control over my narrative, revealing hidden scars and prompting contemplation of transformation, growth, and self-love.
Amidst hormonal imbalances and perimenopausal challenges, art becomes my sanctuary—a space to process emotions and regain agency. Acknowledging the societal significance of my project amid debates on reproductive rights, I draw parallels to Roe v. Wade. A decade of suffering culminated in a resolute radical hysterectomy, a choice rooted in conviction.
Through my art, I amplify the voices of women facing similar struggles, offering solace and empowerment. Guiding those seeking support in their reproductive journeys, I advocate for self-discovery and healing. Sharing my artwork aims to illuminate women's internal battles.

DESCRIPTION
AUTHOR
Multidisciplinary artist, born, raised in Puerto Rico and resident of Chattanooga, Tennesse;
Investigating the relationship between materiality and the female body through photography, self-portraits and performance. I focus on the discipline of intervened photography and collaboration with the elements of nature on the photographic paper. Growing up with analog photography, there is a need to manipulate the images manually; while using sharp tools to scrape personal writings and drawings as well as hand stitching the weathered down photographs. My international career includes exhibitions in Spain, Germany, France, Dubai, Singapore, Shanghai, Chicago, Boston, New York, Puerto Rico and Colombia.
My extensive education takes me from a Cum Laude Bachelor of Visual & Performing Arts from Syracuse University in 2006 to a Master in Documentary Photography from EFTI Escuela de Photography Centro de Imagen Madrid in 2008. In 2013, I was awarded a Scholarship by the Fondation de France to study a summer at the Ecole Nationale Superieure de la Photographie in Arles, France. And the next year, 2014, I completed my Masters in Fine Arts from the International Center of Photography – Bard College in New York. After my studies I assisted photographers like, Spencer Tunick and Jane Evelyn Atwood.
