The Palace of the University of Catania (Single)
DESCRIPTION
The University of Catania building is located in the square of the same name along Via Etnea. Like almost all the buildings in Catania, the University building was built after the disastrous Val di Noto earthquake of 1693. Several architects contributed to its construction, including Francesco and Antonino Battaglia, and Giovanni Battista Vaccarini. The building covers an entire city block, like the nearby Palazzo degli Elefanti, with a cloister-shaped internal courtyard with doors originally open on all four sides of the building.
