As always, the performer and the photographer co-create. In "The Black Veil" we draw from common views on beauty and nudity, and we go beyond the dictum of the male gaze without becoming crass or explicit.
She appears as a classical beauty, holding iconic poses as she becomes the Saint, the Witch, the Nude, and the Dancing Wraith - but she is also human and has the marks to show it. Looking at her imperfections, you feel as if you could reach inside the picture and touch a human being, not a perfectly generated illusion. The veil, which is a 200€ piece of italian silk, hides and frames and accentuates the flow of her movements.
