Dai Nakamura (b. 1970, Hokkaido, Japan) is a Japanese fine art photographer based in Yokohama. After receiving his BFA in Photography from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1997, he worked in New York as an assistant and printer for Hiroshi Sugimoto, contributing to projects such as Seascapes, Theaters, and Dioramas.
Since 2000, Nakamura has developed an extensive body of work exploring time, memory, and human presence within urban and natural spaces. His photographic essays—Solitude Standing, Sakura, Generation, Workers, Broadway Tavern, Portraits of Artists, and Geeks—have been exhibited internationally.
In 2016, he founded G-1 Creations Co., Ltd., a Yokohama-based studio specializing in architectural and developmental photography, overseeing documentation and project completion for both government and corporate clients.
Nakamura’s works are held in major collections including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Danforth Museum of Art; Worcester Art Museum; and Shionoe Museum, Japan. His awards include the 2025 London Photography Awards Gold, the 2024 Analog Sparks Honorable Mention, and the 2023 Pollux Award, Barcelona, Spain, Overall Winner.
He is affiliated with Tepper Takayama Fine Arts, Boston.
