The Erasmusbrug was completed in 1996. It crosses the Nieuwe Maas in the centre of Rotterdam, connecting the north and south parts of this city. The bridge was named in 1992 after Desiderius Erasmus, a prominent Christian Renaissance humanist also known as Erasmus of Rotterdam. The Erasmus Bridge is considered Rotterdam's most important landmark and is even part of the city's official logo.
I captured the photograph around 20.30 (8.30pm). I shot the image from below using the atmospheric lighting illuminating the bridge cable-stays (support cables), the pylon and the main bridge support, and the resultant strong contrast with the surrounding night sky, to highlight the geometric structure and the industrial elements of the bridge, and also to realise the bridge from a different perspective, emphasising its commanding physical presence.

BIOGRAPHY
I was born and raised in Sydney, Australia.
My interest in imagery began at a young age, later extending to a focus on photography. It was through my desire to explore the aesthetic possibilities of black and white photography that I became involved with the leading Black and White photography school, Point Light Gallery in Surry Hills, Sydney, Australia, under the tutelage of Gordon Undy and Murray Fredericks. During my time with Point Light I studied the medium of traditional black and white photography in depth.
I have traveled extensively, frequently to remote locations. Photography has been central for me achieving a deeper understanding of the world’s physical landscape, cultures and people.
