Inspired by a series of historical photographs of the city of Frankfurt from the 19th century, I started looking for the depicted motifs with an approximately 120-year-old wooden travel-camera and taking similar photographs in 18x24 format on sheet film.
Some of the images give the impression that they could actually be shots from the past, while the modern motifs in them seem like hints from the future.
The fact that the holder for the sheet film as well as the small imperfections such as minimal light coming through the wooden cassette can be seen in the photos also gives the pictures a strange temporal ambivalence.
I wonder whether our current photographic technology will still be usable in 100 years and whether people in 100 years might also take a journey into the past by looking at photographs from our current time.
The activity of searching for the past with the old wooden travel-camera and the surprising results, some of which only became apparent to me during development, motivated me to continue the project, so that at the moment new recordings for the series are created.
