Eating The Hills (Series)
DESCRIPTION
This series visualizes the devastating impacts caused by extensive quarrying activities on the KARST mountains of Kinta Valley, Perak. Everyday gestures and actions are projected on an immense scale, where rock beds and trees turn into fine patisseries ready for serving. Devoured and shaved, consumed and thrown away, the once-standing karst mountain in Perak, Malaysia vanished into the invisible heights of nowhere. Captured in April 2023 in Ipoh, Perak, this series starkly showcases the impact of quarrying on the disappearing mountains. Taken via drone, the landscape is contrasted with a digitally composited hand, symbolizing human intervention in nature's degradation. I invite the viewers to re-examine the situation with a refreshing perspective, as I question the actions of the bystanders and onlookers, the names of the hills are fading into oblivion, becoming a part of Perak’s long-lost memories.
