I first met a group of Little Shaolin Monks when we were performing together for the famous Hong Kong singer- Andy Lau's concert in Hong Kong. The monks had just finished the movie “New Shaolin Temple” with Jackie Chan & Andy Lau and Andy invited them to perform in his concert. I met Shaolin Monks again when they worked together for “Sutra”&"TeZukA", a contemporary dance show by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui in Sadler's Wells, London.
I had been fascinated by Shaolin Monk with their determination, dedication, skills, and personality! To go to Shaolin Temple to meet and take photos with them and learn more about Chinese history and culture was a dream come true!
As a professional dancer and choreographer myself I’m always interested in different forms of movements.
I always love speedy, powerful movement and the way they move is just fascinating, they can go to the extreme, very explosive but can also be very calm at times.
To be able to have that level of understanding and complete control of your body is absolutely incredible.
I really really love the contrast, extremeness and their unique personalities. I want to capture that.
