Street Photography 2nd place winner

A simple, everyday scene set against the urban backdrop of an underground metro station. This photo highlights how everyday mundane takes on a deeper meaning, moving towards marvellous through the camera’s lens.

The minimal composition, its prominent lines not only generate depth but also provide a geometric structure in which the subject's movement from foreground to end point and into the light is framed.

I captured this photo in low light conditions with a slightly slow shutter speed allowing for a little motion blur in the escalators. The image was spot metered making a silhouette of the subject against the much brighter exterior light. The photo's bold contrasts enhancing the movement from darkness to light contribute to its symbolic narrative.

I am a professional photographer working mostly in black & white. My style ranges from, fine art architecture, fine art street to moody landscapes. The simplicity of monochromatic imagery, the rich, deep and detailed blacks coupled with crisp whites and all the tones in between, for me makes mundane, marvellous. I often use long exposures & enjoy working in low light creating low-key images which I find are more emotive.
