This three-year-old (very young) stallion radiated pure joie de vivre while I was photographing him in Andalusia. He was full of energy and clearly enjoyed posing in front of the camera. He was really cheeky and played with me, bucking around the arena like a bouncy ball. I rarely saw a horse jumping that high for no reasons. And I am more than happy that I caught this unique once in a lifetime shot! This jump is pure art. Absolutely perfection! So high and yet in perfect shape, like a dancer in the air. I love the lines, the minimalistic surrounding the colors and his facial expression.

Ricarda Piotrowski is a German photographer with an eye for horses. Ever since growing up in the city of Frankfurt am Main she has been fascinated by the clear and honest behavior of these sensitive creatures. Ricarda is working to replace the clichéd images of horses that are overloaded with human emotions. In her photography she wants to return to the natural image and do justice to the horses diverse characters. To stimulate the creative freedom of the viewer, Ricarda often uses cut out details in her photography.
