Landscape nominee

This series is a personal project highlighting my time spent as an artist in residence sailing the Arctic Ocean. Throughout my journey, I looked for glimpses of when the harsh landscape would unveil its true essence as darkness reluctantly gave way to light. I grappled with the realization of my insignificance amid the vastness, feeling like a mere void on the brink of being swallowed.

As I sailed peacefully across this breathtaking expanse, witnessing the profound beauty that often exists only in dreams, I was reminded of the ongoing struggles of the Arctic and its uncertain future. Through my work, I hope to capture these dualities and explore how this intricate story continues to unfold, inviting viewers to engage with the complexity and mystery of this majestic landscape.

Blake Burton (b. 1984) is an American photographer and architect based in Atlanta, Georgia. Through photography, Burton’s work lies in the art of purposeful exploration, adopting the role of a curious observer in search of landscapes that mirror his internal yearning to merge with the shadows and construct a world characterized by tranquil disquiet.
