I am submitting the project Portrait in Time – a series of male portraits created using pinhole photography. This project explores the relationships between space, time, and emotions, with each portrait being the result of collaboration with the subject, who selects the space, moment, and context. The outcome is a unique image that combines pinhole photography, symbolizing permanence, with video recording, capturing the ephemerality of the moment.
My portraits are created in spaces that are often distant, forgotten, or hard to access – places that hold particular significance for the subjects but may remain invisible to others. These images not only document the presence of the individual but also their relationship with the physical and emotional environment. They explore spaces that evoke fascination and unease, opening a space for reflection on memory, impermanence, and identity. They serve as testimonies to places that could become starting points for change – both personal and social. The project fully aligns with the theme of the exhibition dedicated to places on the boundary of visibility and imagination.

DESCRIPTION
AUTHOR
Łukasz Zdęba
I live and create in Wrocław. I graduated from the University of the Arts in Poznań with a degree in Photography and Multimedia. In my work, I explore the relationships between time, place, and emotions, combining various media such as pinhole photography, video, and performative actions. I place particular emphasis on collaboration with viewers and participants, who become co-creators of my works, giving them a unique and personal character.
My projects focus on the transience of moments, the dynamics of memories, and reflections on identity. I experiment with emotions and the subconscious, treating place and time as essential artistic tools. An example of this approach is my project "Portrait in Time," where the portrayed individuals choose the context of their presence within the artwork.
My works have been exhibited at various exhibitions and festivals, where they have been appreciated for their subtlety, intellectual depth, and fresh approach to classical visual techniques. I am constantly seeking new means of expression, striving to define the boundaries of art and the ways in which it is perceived.
Exhibitions (2002–2004):
Galeria If Museum "Inner Spaces," Poznań – Performance
Grotowski Theater, Wrocław – Performance from the series "1977.07.10..."
