The Anavilhanas and Mariuá Archipelagos in the Rio Negro are among the largest and most impressive river archipelagos in the world. Located in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon, they consist of thousands of islands surrounded by the blackwater of the Rio Negro. These unique ecosystems are covered by pristine tropical rainforest and harbor an extraordinary diversity of species, making them one of the most fascinating natural environments on Earth. The Anavilhanas Archipelago comprises approximately 400 islands and stretches for about 90 kilometers along the river. The region is characterized by vast floodplain forests, channels, and lagoons, which dramatically change depending on the water level of the Rio Negro. During the rainy season, many of the islands become submerged, creating an impressive labyrinth of waterways. Even larger than the Anavilhanas Archipelago is the Mariuá Archipelago, located further west. With approximately 1,400 islands, it is considered the largest river archipelago in the world. Stretching over more than 100 kilometers, it offers an almost untouched natural paradise. Due to its remote location, the Mariuá Archipelago is far less explored than Anavilhanas, making it one of the hidden treasures of the Amazon.

Martin Koeppert is a photographer, explorer and adventurer who has traveled to 98 countries and all continents. His expeditions are planned and carried out individually and according to travel plans created by him. His expeditions take him to the most remote but also well-known places when it is interesting and exciting there. Martin Köppert's photographic works are characterized by their impressive diversity. His pictures have already been honored and awarded in several international and national competitions.
